Our November Program at Saint Louis University
This afternoon workshop will run from 1-5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at Saint Louis University’s Xavier Hall .
You will have your choice of topic in each of three sessions. Details
are listed below. Parking will be provided SLU’s Laclede and Olive
Garages. Sign-in begins at 12:30 p.m.

We will gather in the brewery’s “Half Pint Room” located in the North
Bar with Schlafy's beer and food available for purchase. Join us and
learn how Schlafly’s marketing team took a non-traditional marketing and
social media approach to building relationships with its “fans” and
“followers."
Technology Day sessions
Session 1
- Video Production on a Shoestring Budget—As PR professionals, many of us have been asked to produce a video with very little money. Kate Manfull, Owner of Odessa Communication, will
show you how to produce the best possible videos on a small budget.
Learn about shot composition, lighting and sound in difficult situations
and have your questions answered.
- What You're Not Doing with Your Facebook Page ... but Should Be—It used to be enough just to have a Facebook page. No longer. Patrick Powers, Director of Digital Marketing and Communications for Webster University will
demonstrate all the recent changes in Facebook and how marketers are
adjusting. He will also address specific tactics that help increase
awareness and drive engagement.
Session 2
- Introduction to Video Editing—Now you have some great footage for your online video, but no money to hire an editor. A team from SLU’s Communication Department will prepare you to put the finishing touches on your next video project and format it for use on the world wide web.
- Getting Started Using Pay-Per-Click Ads on Google AdWords—Pay-Per-Click
(PPC) ads reach consumers when they’re actively searching for your type
of product – making them among the most effective ways to bring
qualified leads or eager-to-buy consumers to your website. David O’Brien, Online Marketing Manager for Mercy Health
will cover the steps needed to set up campaigns, how to write your own
ads, how to continually refine your campaign for better results and
where to get ongoing help and training to make the process DIY-easy and
low risk.
- Is Your Business Mobile Unfriendly?—William Watson, VP of Mobile Marketing at Anchor Communications, will teach you how to effectively reach your customers using mobile technology such as mobile websites, mobile web apps, mobile native apps, QR barcodes, and “augmented reality” and more.

- Managing Your Email Strategically—Nearly
all of us are bombarded with emails every day. Keeping the important
ones in a place where you can act on them is a critical part of
succeeding in today’s office environment. Dr. Leilani Carver (pictured above) from Maryville University will show you new strategies to manage your email so you can find what you need faster without digging through all the clutter.
- Getting the Most from Your Website with Search Engine Optimization—Showing up in the top search results online is critical to driving traffic on your web page. TJ. Kirgin, CEO and SEO specialist at Anchor Communications, will demonstrate techniques and best practices that will help you keep your website at the top of its game.
- Social Media Case Study—See how Hardee's has used its social media to successfully energize its customer base and reactivate a latent audience. Jenna Petroff, Public Relations and Social Media Manager for Hardee’s Food Systems
(right)will walk you through how the company adjusted strategy and
budget on the fly to keep everyone from the c-suite to the customer
happy while achieving impressive results.
