Marc Little

An Inside Look at our September 2004 Presenter

"Marc Curtis Little founded Marc Little Enterprises, Inc. in 1984, with the dream of being
Florida’s first successful African American-owned advertising and public relations firm."

Marc Little is vice chair of the National Diversity Committee of the Public Relations Society of America and as a member of the five-year strategic planning committee.  He is the president of the Florida chapter of the National Black Public Relations Society.  Marc is also a member of PRSA’s Counselors Academy.  In his capacity with PRSA’s National Diversity Committee, Marc has traveled extensively throughout the United States, speaking on the issue of diversity in the public relations industry.

Since May 1986, Marc has operated Marc Little Public Relations under the corporate leadership of Marc Little Enterprises.  The major clients of the firm are Edward Waters College, Jacksonville Human Rights Commission, motivational speakers George and Sedena Cappannelli (Phoenix, Ariz.), Duval County Health Department, author Benilde Little (New Jersey), Join Together Jacksonville, Florida Memorial College (Miami, Florida), and the Duval County Schools Exceptional Student Education program.  Marc is also a partner with BrooksLittle Communications in Coral Gables, Florida and Ministry Marketing Management Group in Jacksonville.

Marc has served the State of Florida for more than 15 years as a volunteer with Jacksonville Insight (Mayor’s appointment), Florida Commission on Minority Economic and Business Development (Florida Senate President’s appointment), Florida Commission on Human Relations (Governor’s appointment), Duval-Nassau County Adult Vocational Education Coordinating Council (Governor’s appointment), Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, and Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Workforce 2000 Task Force.

Married and the father of two, Marc’s beginning are traced here:

Marc Curtis Little was born in Newark, N.J., Sept. 8, 1951 to Matthew and Clara Little.  Marc’s father is a decorated World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, who grew up in Anderson, S.C. and worked for more than 30 years as an auto assemblyman.  Marc’s mother worked as a nurse’s assistant for close to 40 years in New Jersey hospitals after leaving her childhood home in Summit, Ga.  Marc’s sister Benilde is a best-selling author with Simon and Shuster; his younger brother Duane, a government budget director; and his older brother Larry, a supervisor with Anheuser-Busch.  All three siblings still live in different communities in New Jersey.

Marc was educated in the Newark public school system and as a youngster - instilled with the values of self-determination, entrepreneurship and hard-nose confidence by his parents and neighbors in their blue-collar working class community in the city’s South Ward.  Marc was a leader of his Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops, as well as captain and three-year letterman of his high school baseball and soccer teams.  A marginal elementary and secondary school student, he earned high academic honors his junior and senior years at Weequahic High School.  He also learned the importance of the relationship between a basic academic education and real-life experiences in dealing with adversity and accomplishment.

After two years of study (earning Dean’s List honors all four semesters) at Los Angeles City College and studying for a brief span of time at UCLA, Marc took his schooling in radio-TV-film and to Jacksonville, Fla., for his first professional job at WERD Radio in 1972.  He became well-known for his community involvement in all areas of Jacksonville through his employment in radio.  As a sports broadcaster, Marc worked at WJXT-TV/Channel 4 and hosted numerous radio shows dealing with athletics.  His crowning achievement in sports was the production of the High School Game of the Week basketball and football broadcasts, which aired from 1977 through 1984 on WPDQ Radio in Jacksonville.  Marc’s 14 years in radio and television were marked with recognition from nearly 100 organizations and community groups, including seven national awards from Billboard Magazine and Black Radio Exclusive Magazine.  In 1984, he formed Marc Little Enterprises, Inc., a Florida corporation, to begin pursuing his lifelong ambition to be an entrepreneur.
