Cuniberti: Notes
Non-Stop Humor & Fun
What a fun way to end the year! Thanks to Betty Cuniberti, Columnist for the Post-Dispatch, who gave those at the December lunch a fun look at the many events which had shaped her career. As one of the first woman sports reporters, Betty laid the groundwork for those who followed. This was not without a few bumps in the road due to the likes of John Madden who tried to practice a "No women" policy Betty related her stories from Sheila Tate, press secretary to Nancy Reagan, on when NOT to announce a new set of White House china. If thinking of shaving years off our true ages, Betty recommended trimming off five years rather the two-year approach taken by Mrs. Reagan. ("And if you go on a blind date, stick to topics that happened a month ago so you don't get tripped up about your real/reduced ages.") When asked how PR pros could work with her, Betty said, "Take 'no' for an answer, but don't take it personally. Come back to me soon." Her interest is in topics on the human condition, and the people behind the story, not the client or product itself. When asked how she writes her columns, Betty responded, "No outlines. Never had an outline. I do most of my work at 5 am in my PJs." Have a story idea? Send it her way!
Foodbank
Thanks to all who made a donation at the December luncheon for the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Your kind contributions resulted in a donation of 134 pounds of food; enough to feed 44 people for one day. The Foodbank provides food to area agencies serving more than 300,000 people in need.
