Pro-Am DayPRO-AM Day The annual Pro-Am Day at Saint Louis University will have a new date in 2008. Unfortunately it will be a new calendar year for students. With the event being cancelled Feb. 22 this year due to the threat of ice and snow, the Univeristy is moving the annual event to November - the next session being Friday, Nov. 7. In support of the ongoing working relationship with the program, PRSA-St. Louis will hold its November luncheon that same day. Watch for more information. The event gives college and university students in a four-state area a chance to learn more about the career they are pursuing with a day-long workshop. Speakers and presenters are usually PRSA members, many accredited, who can give prospective PR pros a view from the every-day side of the profession. The luncheon is a typical professional growth event for PRSA-St. Louis members and friends but with a few insights for those just entering the business. Students and professionals share luncheon tables and a time to share before the speaker. PRO-AM Day 2006 featured Allison Collinger, St. Louis Rams, go to "Adding the Sizzle." She shared how professional sports teams are always looking to increase the presence of their players in a community and how organizations can get their message and people in front of teams like the Rams. PRO-AM Day 2005 featured Jeff Rainford, a former St. Louis radio/TV reporter, now chief of staff for St. Louis mayor Francis Slay. PRO-AM Day 2004 was held at Saint Louis University Friday, Feb. 27. The event drew approximately 100 students from across the Midwest interested in public relations. PRSA's monthly luncheon was held in the College Church ballroom with Peter Snyder, co-founder of Synder-Workman Communications, speaking on "Challenges and Opportunities in Global Public Relations." Breakout panel sessions prior to lunch included integrated communications, nonprofit PR, sports PR, media relations, special events, and crisis PR. Mock resume review sessions were conducted by St. Louis PRSA chapter members with the day's participants. If you're interested in helping out with future PRO-AM Day events or need more conformation, please contact Liese Hutchison at hutchill@slu.edu.
Nearly 150 college juniors and seniors and area PR professionals lunched together and listen to luncheon presentations. The students also get time to network and ask professionals about thier work. Mock interviews (far right) helped students prepare for the real world. |
