1. Laura Ries, Oct. 20 Update Have you taken advantage of our new streamlined, online registration process and signed up for the much-anticipated Laura Ries luncheon presentation, Oct. 20 at the Junior League? More than 150 already have. So don't be left out. The luncheon, sponsored by Common Ground Public Relations, Inc., will hear from the co-author of the best-selling "The Fall of Advertising; the Rise of PR" and other more recent works on branding. Check out The Rise of PR for details on the luncheon, including menu options or go directly to Register Now and register yourself and as many colleagues as like all under one registration. You can pay online by credit card (American Express, MasterCard or VISA) or just note that you'll pay at the door by cash or check.
2. November Luncheon heads-up Look for registration to be open soon for our Nov. 11 luncheon at the Junior League. It will feature a panel of local CEOs. In essence, the crux of the meeting content is an opportunity to learn how a few local Presidents/CEOs view the public relations function and the role of the public relations professional in their businesses and organizations. We as the PR pros think we know, but unless we've asked, we could be way off base. Visit our Programs page for who's already lined up and links to their bios.

6. Membership Notes PRSA-St. Louis leads in NATIONAL/Member-Get-a-Member promotion effort! As of September 20, PRSA gained 65 new national members through its August/September Member-Get-A-Member promotion. Preliminary results showed Chicago and the St. Louis chapters as the early leaders with Austin, Maryland, Memphis, New Jersey, New York, Tar Heel and Thoroughbred just behind. Applications were to be in by early October to earn the MGAM benefit. Check out the "Section Appreciation" October/November membership promotion - aka 'Fall into a Golden Opportunity' on our Membership page. Individuals who join as full members during this period receive a free one-year membership to the Professional Interest Section of their choice.
7. New York, New York... Three members of PRSA-St. Louis, all Board members and each an APR, will represent our chapter at the business portion of the 2005 International PRSA Conference in New York later this month. The three - Liese Hutchison, APR; Paul Tandy, APR, and Glynn Young, APR - will offer three votes on proposed changes in the organization and in turn provide our chapter with input from National upon their return. Assembly delegates are elected at our chapter's annual meeting (this year in December) and serve three-year terms. Hutchison and Young are completing their third years as chapter representatives. Tandy is serving as an alternate this year in place of elected Kathy Siddens, APR, currently on maternity leave until November. The Board of PRSA St. Louis voted to let the three use their own conscience and understanding of our chapter's needs and feelings rather than direct them to vote a certain way on each bit of pending legislation.
8. Job Bank/ Good News/Bad News If you haven't looked at our Job Bank recently you'll notice that some jobs have come and gone - quickly. Job bank co-chairs Pat Feeney and Vicki Biggs report that employers seem to be slowing down right now, maybe seeing what's left in their 2004 budgets and what 2005 will hold. But the jobs sent to the new Job Bank have been filled quicky and at least a couple we know of by PRSA members. If you know someone who is advertising a PR job elsewhere let them know of the service and the quick results. See Job Bank for the latest ads and where and how to post new opportunities for our members and friends.
9. Opportunities Within & Beyond Want to serve on a PRSA Committee, Help in 2005 planning? As the 2005 board of directors plans for a year's worth of activities, events and professional development...we'd love the participation of interested members. Help is needed in luncheon planning, special events, membership communications and other areas. Please let us know if you're interested in joining a great group of active professionals. Contact Denise Bentele Heintz, APR, dbheintz@commongroundpr.com if interested and let her know what area(s) you'd be interested in helping.
