What's in this issue? 1. Next PRSA meeting at St. Louis University, Feb. 27 2. New Board sets goals for 2004 3. Crisis PR - Right here in West County; also a panel review 4. Meet our 12 newest members and a ton of renewals 5. Charlie Brennan's lighter side of PR and the news 6. So, what exactly do you do "in PR?" 7. What others are doing
1. "Challenges and Opportunities in Global Public Relations" Pete Snyder, co-founder of Synder-Workman Communications, has 30 years of agency experience, including serving first as president of Dorf & Stanton, then president of Miller/Shandwick Technologies and finally president of Shandwick, United States, before starting his own agency. He'll explore the realm of a world drastically shrunk by the click of a mouse and the strategic placement of a stationary mini-cam, yet where cultural, historical and even religious differences still abound. Snyder's presentation will headline our February monthly luncheon, Friday, Feb. 27, at Saint Louis University. It's part of Pro-Am Day activities. Our February luncheon is sponsored by Biz360.com. Active Market Intelligence. Registration is now open.

2. "Senior Practictioners, Students, Charity, Diversity" The largest cadre of leadership in recent memory gathered Jan. 15 as the old and new PRSA-St. Louis boards passed. Actually many of those who served in 2003 are back as well as some new co-chairs. New president Trudy Barthels has set the following as goals for the chapter in 2004: "Senior Practitioners (not old PR people but experienced PR people) with more functions and programs for them as well as getting them involved in mentoring; Continued emphasis on work with students, through the various PRSSA chapters in the bi-state area and with the Roosevelt High School project; adopting a charity or pro-bono work; and diversity.
REAL CRISIS - When PRSA new APRs Rob Staggenborg (second from left) and Paul Tandy (third from left) were caught after a summer PRSA luncheon last year they didn't know they would be literally standing next to each other in a real crisis situation. When a Laidlaw school bus transporting elementary students to a Parkway school turned over in rush hour traffic on Hwy 40 earlier this month, Tandy was called upon to get his PR training into real gear. He is PR director for the Parkway School District. Staggenborg, on the other hand, could only stand by and rehearse how he would have reacted in such a situation. The communications director of Christian Brothers College High School, Rob was probably on the scene before Paul as the accident occured right in front of the CBC campus. Jamie Allman mentioned the handling of the accident during the combined Jan. 13 PRSA-CSPRC-IABC luncheon.
3. "Panel looks at PR and Media coverage in Crisis Situations" The day after a public event happened in St. Louis involving a variety of audiences, the potential for legal suits and school-age children, more than 118 area members and friends of PRSA, CSPRC and IABC looked another real case. A panel with a PR spokesperson, investigative reporter and an attorney responded to the earlier case as well as the accident on Hwy 40.
