1) New PRSA Foundation Scholarship to honor St. Louis member

The PRSA Foundation announced this month a new $5,000 scholarship for high-potential college juniors or seniors enrolled in a journalism or public relations program, or taking courses to prepare for a career in public relations. The John D. Graham Scholarship is made possible by a donation to the Foundation from Fleishman-Hillard International Communications.

John D. Graham, APR, Fellow PRSA, is chairman of Fleishman-Hillard. During his tenure as the firm's CEO and president from 1974-2006, the agency grew from a single office in St. Louis to more than 80 offices around the world. Earlier this year, he was named the first recipient of the PRSA Foundation Paladin Award for his leadership and commitment to the public relations profession.

2) Young Pros to go Ape, Aug. 26

Please join the PRSA-St. Louis Young Professionals for a night of music, drinks, food and fun at Jammin' at the Saint Louis Zoo, Wednesday, Aug. 26. The YPs will meet between 6-6:30 p.m. inside the Zoo, in front of the Living World building. (Enter the Living World Building at the North Entrance and walk through the building into the Zoo).

Admission is free for Zoo Friends, $10 for general admission. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Feel free to bring friends, family or co-workers (21+ only) and enjoy this great event with other young professionals. For more information about the night's event see: Jammin' at the Zoo.

If you didn't get a special eVite to join us, e-mail us with your reservation(s).

3) PRSA St. Louis to have four voices at San Diego Conference

Despite hard financial times and cutbacks PRSA-St. Louis managed to maintain its number of National members above the 300 mark as of Aug. 1. That effort earned the chapter four voting spots in annual business meeting just prior to the PRSA International Conference in San Diego in early November. Representing the chapter will be elected delegates: Sonia Coleman, Coleman Unlimited; Rita Holmes-Bobo, APR, Fleishman-Hillard, Inc.; Jeff Waldman, Bethesda Health Group, and Rob Staggenborg, APR, CBC High School.

The St. Louis Chapter had the greatest overall percentage growth in National members during 2008 for chapters in the second highest classification (200-399 members), showing a 15 percent growth in membership. It closed calendar 2008 with 329 National members.

4) Two PRSA-St. Louis Chapter members voted into St. Louis "Halls"

Two members of the St. Louis Chapter of PRSA are among five PR pros and 20 Media Halls of Fame honorees selected in 2009 by members of their current chapter associations. Monsanto's Glynn Young, APR, Fellow PRSA and a 2009 PRSA-St. Louis Chapter board member, and Karen Marshall, a recently retired Monsanto executive, were among the new inducees as nominated and voted upon by their peers. Other PR selections included: AmerenUE's Susan Gallagher and former Fleishman-Hillard executives Ruth Jacobson and the late Al Kerth. See the 2009 Media Halls of Fame inducees.
